BiographY
Founded in Les Sables-d'Olonne, Leonie is a music group from Vendée known for its pop-rock music. In 2017, Leonie released the album "Paris Océan."
Beginnings alongside higher education in music
Leonie was born from the passion for music of two brothers, Marc and Frédéric Pradel (former member of Kwal). Although a first EP album was released in 2006, the band truly formed the following year. Its name is a reference to a young girl the Angevins knew during their school years. Moreover, their first performances took place alongside their studies at the Conservatoire to train in the violin and trumpet. They wrote their first lyrics not far from the Atlantic beaches and began performing at local festivals, in Les Sables-d'Olonne and on the Vendée coast. They performed free performances that captivated audiences, who were constantly coming to listen to them.
A pop-rock style that expresses itself through numerous influences
The band has many influences. Their pop-rock style is centered around classical sounds, but also brass instruments, such as the trumpet and trombone. Guitars, bass, drums, and violin also accompany their songs. These are directly inspired by board sports, particularly surfing and skateboarding, and the cheerful rhythms from across the Atlantic and the West Coast of the United States. From Coldplay to Blink-182, via Ed Sheeran, La Ruda, and Noir Désir, the references are multiple and easily identifiable in their songs. In short, the perfect representation of street culture crowned with impeccable musical technique. Ideal for rediscovering an atmosphere worthy of the Californian coast in a "vintage surf" spirit.
Multiple performances in Vendée… and throughout France
Leonie performs a string of concerts, particularly during the summer months when festivals are numerous. The band quickly gained notoriety on the local scene, then nationally. However, it wasn't until 2014 that Alban Soulié joined the Pradel brothers to continue the adventure. In the meantime, Léonie released a second EP in 2008, then an acoustic album in 2010. Since the 2010s, the trio from Les Sables-d'Olonne has performed outside the regional borders, offering dates in Paris, Clermont-Ferrand, Bobigny, and more. They can even be found at the Face & Si festival, which takes place in the town of Mouilleron-le-Captif. Leonie sometimes performs between 30 and 50 dates in the space of a season. These performances allow them to perfect their stage experience while attracting major record labels.
A new rebound in the group's career and studio albums in sight
As Léonie's community grew, the band quickly turned to crowdfunding to raise the funds needed to produce their new album. The 2016 fundraising campaign was a success. The following year, Léonie was noticed by Universal Music. The major label offered them a contract to release an album under their label. This was followed by the release of several singles such as "Eléa," "J'veux pas la perdre," and "Voulez-vous," along with its music video. Here again, we find influences dear to the band members, including Oasis, Téléphone, Youssoupha, and Oxmo Puccino. It's worth noting that Léonie collaborates with Alexandre Zulliani, who is also closely associated with the pop-rock group Thérapie Taxi. Leonie also works with Sophiane Productions and, in 2017, released the album "Paris océan."
What are the future prospects for Leonie?
For the time being, no date has been announced or even set for their new album. In interviews, the members of Leonie have announced that they "want to take their time and not rush things." Furthermore, Leonie prioritizes contact with her audience and, consequently, the organization of regular tours across France. Communication through social networks and crowdfunding sites also allows them to stay up to date on the band's official and unofficial projects. Regarding Leonie's previous albums, they are available for mail order and at concerts. Note that the band's lineup can accommodate new members depending on their touring and studio needs, particularly for bass, trombone, and guitar.
