BiographY
Kamini, a multifaceted artist
The son of a general practitioner from Congo, Kamini Zantoko was born on December 8, 1979. He grew up in the village of Marly-Gomont, a remote village in the depths of the Aisne region, characterized by its diverse population ("95% cows and 5% inhabitants," according to the rapper). It's not easy growing up in the countryside, especially when you're the only black child in the village. From childhood, Kamini had to face prejudices and remarks about his skin color. Today, it is this experience that forms the basis of his writing.
In 2006, he achieved the first internet buzz in France with the Marly Gomont music video. He sold over 500,000 singles and his first album, Psychostar World, sold nearly 120,000 copies.
His second avant-garde single, "I am white," sold over 100,000 copies, if we look at current events.
In this album he also addresses psychiatry and reality TV with Psychostar Show, a video clip that screams the truth and will have millions of views.
He went on tour with this album for 2 years.
He released a second album entitled Extra Terrien, driven by successful music videos such as "Parce Qu'On Est Con" and "La Bagarre", which garnered several million views in 2009.
Following complications with his record label, Kamini retired from music to devote himself to his other talents.
Kamini Portrait
He wrote, produced and performed his first one-man show: "il faut que je vous explication" (I need to explain to you). He has been touring France, Switzerland and Belgium since 2013. He has performed at the biggest comedy festivals: Montreux, Youhumour, Le Field at the Théâtre du Trévise, and Café Oscar. He won awards at the Rochefort Festival (Belgium) and the Strasbourg Zygomatics Festival, which led him to open for Jarry. He also shared the stage with Denis Maréchal, Popeck, Pascal Légétimus, Alex Vizorek, and members of the Jamel Comedy Club.
He still regularly performs his show as part of the Petit Patelin Tour Stand Up.
TELEVISION
At the same time, he made his debut as a TV host on France 4 (KIFF TV), a charity association. On France 3, he was a columnist for two years, on Midi En France, where he discussed regional patois expressions. This led him to have his own show: Les Gens des Hauts on the France Télévision network. On France 3 Hauts de France, France 3, and TV 5 Monde, this show has been broadcast since 2017. It was renewed in 2020 because it found its audience.
Since 2019, he has been co-hosting La Dictée Nationale on France 3 and is co-author and host of the short format: Tous Prêts pour La Dictée. This format is broadcast on France 2 from April until June when La Dictée arrives.
MOVIE THEATER
In 2016, Kamini returned to prestigious TV sets to promote his film. He co-wrote the hit film: Welcome to Marly Gomont, with 700,000 cinema admissions and more than 10 million viewers on TF1. (First broadcast in August 2018 and July 2019), where he achieved the highest TV audience in each of these broadcasts.
He is currently preparing Marly Gomont as a TV series and is working on other film projects as a screenwriter.
BACK IN MUSIC
Therefore, 9 years pass between his second and third album which arrives in November 2020.
Far from being a pre-made rapper, Kamini is a complete artist: author, composer, performer, and director of his own music videos. A UFO in the French rap landscape, Kamini doesn't rap about the projects (since he's never lived there) nor with a lot of bling and big cars. He uses his marginality to differentiate himself and establish himself not just as "a country rapper," but as a conscious and committed rapper denouncing a reality he experiences every day—a country reality, a rural reality.
He raps about life, human psychology, the world, duality, which can be heard even more in his latest tracks: Eul Vraie France, Le Bonheur and J'avais Envie De Le Dire.
Always present on social networks, he is followed by more than 100,000 subscribers on his Vevo account by posting very few clips, including his hit title Saque Din .
Now, he is reconnecting with his audience by deciding to increase the frequency of producing clips in order to promote his upcoming album.
This 3rd album, entitled “3ème Acte”, was released on December 4, 2020. Discover it now!
